Attain a comprehensive understanding of complementary and alternative medicine coupled with hands-on experience through a summer practicum.
What You’ll Learn
The Physiology and Biophysics Program in Complementary and Alternative Medicine is a one year program designed to provide students with a more robust and multi-disciplinary evidence based-approach to healthcare practices. The program focuses on training students to objectively assess the safety and efficacy of various complementary and alternative medicine modalities and to introduce scientific rigor into understanding the mechanistic basis for CAM therapies such as acupuncture, massage, herbs and supplements, and mind-body interactions. Students who plan on entering careers in private and public sectors related to CAM research, education, and integrative healthcare, will be provided with a rigorous educational program that incorporates a firm foundation in biomedical science, exposure to CAM disciplines, and competence in assessment of evidence.
During the summer, students will partake in a practicum where they will be placed with top CAM-related organizations, putting to practice their learnings and developing real-time problem-solving skills. The practicum should contribute to students’ knowledge of CAM or public health at clinical, basic science, educational, regulatory and/or public policy levels. This is an opportunity to learn and use practical real-world skills while serving as ambassadors of the CAM program. Participants receive mentorship throughout the practicum to provide support and help in maximizing their experience.
